This project was developed in a self created tragic ideal of what love is. Love is created only in our mind and solely our mind. We might find someone that is close to your ideal of what love is but it still isn’t the same and this difference will create controversy in your bond with that special someone. I started this project on Saint Valentine’s Day as my love broke me and I felt like dying. As I feel like dying, as I walked that cold-gated path, as I question and ponder what love is, and as I want to re-create that tragedy bestowed inside my mind so I can be free.
Most of my large pieces are developed from my frustration with American lifestyle and this project was no different. As in America we have a rotation of holidays and this rotation is how to live and buy. More then ever our consumerism has lost complete control and we have put a price tag on what love is or can be. Symbols are now money and to show how much you love someone is by how deep your pockets can go to infatuate your love. This is where I found myself with my love.
In this project I use symbols of flow as in love we need to create synergy to keep that fire burning. Roses are a traditional symbol of love with their power of red for the human eye to react warmly and affectionately. The symbol found most prominent in this piece is the double-sided triangle for male, female, intercourse, and creation of life through love. The fence is for that lonely path we walk on when our heart is forgotten and our money can’t speak for what we feel and our true selves blossom from our death.
